Camp L.E.A.D. at Texas Tech University
Camp L.E.A.D. is Texas Tech University's leadership education and development program. During this four-day/three-night program, students will participate in activities ranging from individualized leadership sessions to group challenges and team building activities.
All expenses, including transportation, housing, and curriculum materials are provided at no cost to students admitted to the program.
Admission to Camp L.E.A.D. is highly selective. Students should apply and submit documentation regarding their leadership abilities no later than the given deadline. To be considered, students must meet the following requirements:
  • Grade level - must be an incoming high school senior in the fall of 2017
  • Academic Performance - student's high school counselor will need to submit an internal form regarding student's academic performance. Students will also be asked to self-report ACT/SAT test scores.
  • Community Involvement - must be an active member of the community and involved in extracurricular activities
  • Leadership - must have a proven desire to be a leader
Students should apply at www.camplead.ttu.edu.
Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2017.

A College Planning Guide for Hispanic Students
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics released a college planning resource intended to help guide Hispanic students and their families through the college preparation and application process. The resource guide includes information on a variety of topics, including college preparation courses, differences between types of postsecondary institutions, completing college applications, college entrance exams, financial aid applications, and preparing for the first semester of college. The guide serves as a continuation of previous resources published by ED geared toward Hispanic students. In 2014, for example, ED released a resource guide for Hispanic students focused on how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Aggieland Saturday
We at Texas A&M University invite you to Aggieland Saturday, an annual campus-wide open house for prospective students and their families. During this one day, you can meet current students, tour the dorms, visit libraries and computer labs and see what Texas A&M has to offer you. You can also learn more about our colleges and majors, get information about admission and pick up some financial aid and scholarship information, too.
You could spend 52 Saturdays working, cleaning your room or mowing the yard. Why not spend one Saturday in Aggieland? Registration is recommended but not required. So bring your family and friends, and we'll see you in Aggieland on Saturday, February 11, 2017.

Aggieland Info Day
Prospective students interested in attending Texas A&M can experience all that we offer during Aggieland Information Day (Monday, Nov. 21). Aggieland Information Day is a combined event held in the fall that complements our largest event of the year,Aggieland Saturday.
During Aggieland Information Day, participants will learn about the admissions process, opportunities for financial aid and our academic colleges. Additionally, participants will tour campus, view the residence halls and learn more about the history and traditions that make our university so unique. During the day, participants will have the opportunity to meet with faculty, staff and academic advisors, as well as have access to resource tables where they will learn about our majors and resources on campus.

This contest features over $20,000 in prizes, and a grand prize of $5,000. This contest is perfect for students who need help paying for college! PSAT
Juniors, it's time to sign up for the PSAT! Sign up in the counselors' office. Cost is $15. Deadline to sign up is September 22. Test date is October 19. Besides getting used to the test's format, gain valuable information from CollegeBoard to be more successful on the SAT.
National Association for College Admission
The National Association for College Admission Counseling is pleased to announce the Houston National College Fair to be held on Thursday, April 13, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the NRG Park. Current high school sophomores and juniors in the Houston area are encouraged to come and visit with representatives from over 200 colleges and universities from all over the country. We strongly encourage your students to register online for the fair in advance—this saves valuable time by not having to complete information cards for each institution in which they are interested. LEAP Meeting
A LEAP meeting for parents and students will be help on Thursday, April 21 at 5:30 in the LGI. If you are interested in earning dual credit while in high school through Lamar University then please plan to attend this meeting.
Dual Credit Options/TSI
Next school year students will have the opportunity to earn college and high school credit. This is in addition to our Lamar Early Access Program. If you are interested in earning college credit in high school then you will need to take the TSI exam. This exam will be offered on our campus on April 23. The registration deadline is April 15.

There will be a parent meeting held on April 4th at 6 PM in the LGI to discuss dual credit options available to our students along with tuition and registration requirements.
Sign up to take SAT/ACT before start of Senior Year
Sign up to take a SAT or ACT before the start of your senior year. Some college application deadlines are as early as November 1 and you will need an SAT or ACT score in order to complete the application process. Please review the remaining dates to sign up to take the test. You must sign up online approximately one month prior to test date.

Beaumont A & M Club Meeting
Area high school juniors are invited to attend the Beaumont A & M Club meeting on February 23, 2016 at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica Church Center, 700 Jefferson Street in Beaumont. The meeting begins at 6:30 P.M. in the St. Anthony Center. A complimentary dinner will be served to students and their family at 7 P.M. This meeting will serve as an introduction to Texas A & M University. Scholarship applications will only be distributed to seniors.

NASA High School Aero Space Scholars
NASA seeks high school juniors interested in space and science! The High School Aerospace Scholars application is now open at: http://has.aerospacescholars.org

High School Aerospace Scholars (HAS) is a NASA unique opportunity for juniors who are interested in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) at no cost to participants. Selected students will participate in an interactive, online course during the school year that culminates in an all-expense-paid trip to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in the summer. During the online course, students will investigate space exploration challenges by creating technical drawings, solving math problems, and participating in discussion forums with NASA engineers and scientists. Texas teachers guide students through the online curriculum and grade their work. Students with the highest scores are invited to Johnson Space Center in Houston for six days where they will work with NASA mentors to complete engineering design challenges and plan a mission to Mars. Students will be briefed on the past, present, and future of space exploration by NASA engineers, scientists, and special guests while touring NASA’s facilities.

If your student is interested in attending The University of Texas Austin Longhorn Saturday is a great even to attend. This will be held on October 31, 2015.

UT Austin will also hold Longhorn Monday on November 23, 2015.

Aggie Land Saturday
If your student is interested in going to Texas A&M for college then Aggie Land Saturday is a great event to attend for all Juniors. This will be held on February 13, 2015 at Texas A&M College Station Campus. Please see their website for further information.

A&M will also hold Aggie Information Day on November 23, 2015.
